Over the weekend, cover photos of the July 2012 Issue of W Magazine began popping up. The first cover I saw was of Joan Smalls (one of my favorite models) and shortly after, some grainy photos of her actual editorial surfaced. I loved it, but wasn’t pleased with the quality of the pictures that I saw. Today I learned that Karlie Kloss also has a cover and was a part of the spread too…
Excitment showered over me as soon as I saw that the entire editorial was styled by Edward Enninful (my favorite style director) and that the official photos had been released. Joan and Karlie were adorned with Bulgari and David Webb jewels and draped in luxe ensembles from Prada, Balenciaga, Oscar de la Renta, Tory Burch, Derek Lam, Louis Vuitton, Viktor & Rolf and more. If you’re a fashion magazine reader, then you’ve noticed the subtle, yet sudden shift to Fall 2012 wear (which is the norm), in upcoming publications. This editorial has Fall 2012 written all over it with it’s homage to menswear that flirts with femininity. I love it. Enjoy!
“I just have something to prove,” Smalls says. “I know I’m representing a group—black, Latin, whatever you want to put me with—and I want to show that they are beautiful the way they are. I think that’s really important for our youth to see. Fashion is part of our culture,” she says. “And it’s about more than just a pretty dress.” Joan Smalls on her role in society.
Magnificent! Joan is a gorgeous woman.
“It used to be something that I really disliked about myself, being tall and lanky, but it turned out to be the greatest asset I have—how uniquely weird I am.” Karlie on her height and frame.
Lovely! Karlie looked amazing.
