Anticipating 2012 Style – 7 Ladies that Kept It Fresh in 2011

Happy New Year! 2012 has arrived, whether you were prepared or not. Yes, this “New Year” post is a little late, but I had been thinking long and hard about what I wanted to write. We’ve all read the typical ones; my resolution, that party was so…, this year will be…; I didn’t want to do that. Instead, we’re going to take a look back at 2011, pine over the style that we all loved and hope that the style spills over into 2012. It was hard to narrow down two or three, instead, I went with seven; not on purpose but it just panned out that way. Besides, seven is lucky; right? Here we go!

Rihanna

Rihanna showed us how to rock red tresses, flirt with different textures, make a pair of jeans and a button up look like a million bucks a la a designer clutch, break down the hardness of a masculine silhouette and look fierce in a mud field while soaking up tunes at an outdoor music festival. She’s one of my favorite style risk-takers, her looks have the right amount of panache to catch my attention. At times Rihanna can push the envelope, but overall, her ensembles are flawless.

Camila Alves

Camila Alves taught us how to work the red carpet with our eyes, modernize boldly colored wide-leg trousers, wear multi-colored sequins all at once, take the plunge without looking sleazy, and proved that dresses in various lengths are all sexy in their own way. She had so many eye-catching red carpet looks, a true beauty. I’ve been practicing my “Camila eyes” and I haven’t quite mastered it yet, but I know I’ll have it soon, I can feel it.

Zoe Saldana

Zoe Saldana showed me, yes me, that slim girls can bring it! I’ve always been slim and had dreams of being thicker, but alas, it never happened. No shorts, because I have chicken legs, no shoulder baring, because my collar bone sticks out… So many things I wouldn’t wear because I’m the “skinny girl” p.s. the term skinny irritates me! After seeing Zoe and trying on different looks, I wear shorts, reveal and accentuate my collar bone and feel comfortable in my clothes. Now if I can get my hands on her emerald gown…

Victoria Beckham

Victoria Beckham showed us pregnancy chic, how to look fierce in a bodycon dress while wearing sky-high heels with an infant in tow. She also showed us how to master the shift dress, that silhouette seems to be a favorite of hers. A fur or faux fur master, shown here in different lengths, we get a great example of how to look fabulously casual with wide-leg denim or ultra luxurious in a dress. Please don’t forget your sunnies, Victoria rocks them quite often!

June Ambrose

June Ambrose taught us to be bold, be daring, be different all while wearing heels! She loves adornment, whether it be a hat, jewelry or exquisite shoes; she definitely rocks it out. A lot of style mavens took to wrapping it up and wearing a turban, quite possibly because of her.

Kourtney Kardashian

Kourtney Kardashian is the silhouette guru! Peplum, shorts, a-line, form-fitting; the list goes on and on. She also ventures into bold patterns, statement jewelry and killer bag and shoe combinations. We’ve learned that being petite doesn’t cramp your style, it in fact helps you to create it.

Rachel Roy

Rachel Roy, so she’s my style crush! Her aesthetic is always unique and polished. She understands the elements of various fabrics and colors, creating a beautiful harmony that most would never think twice about. I believe her color blocking ensembles inspired tons of style setters across the globe. Each look has an aura of effortless ease, far from being contrived. I love it, period!

Cassie, Blake Lively, Angela Simmons, Kerry Washington, Melody Ehsani, Solange and Gwyneth Paltrow; caught my eye as well. Whose style are you anticipating in 2012?
